LG Electronics has launched solar-powered boreholes in the Nkpogu and Elekahia communities of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in a bid to improve the quality of life for thousands of residents.<\/p>\n

The unveiling, which took place on Thursday, 21st, 2024, is part of the company\u2019s corporate social responsibility (CSR) program aimed at providing sustainable solutions to vital community needs.<\/p>\n

The solar-powered water systems offer a reliable and eco-friendly source of clean water, addressing the challenges posed by Nigeria\u2019s erratic power supply and reducing the reliance on diesel-powered generators.<\/p>\n

Designed for long-term operation with minimal maintenance, these systems are expected to enhance water access while promoting environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n

Hari Elluru, Head of Corporate Marketing at LG Electronics Nigeria, emphasized the company\u2019s dedication to community development: “We are honored to support Nkpogu and Elekahia with this sustainable solution that addresses a fundamental need\u2014access to clean water. This initiative reflects our commitment to both environmental sustainability and improving the quality of life in these communities.”<\/p>\n

The introduction of these solar-powered boreholes aims to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases, which are often exacerbated by unreliable water sources.<\/p>\n

By providing a consistent and safe water supply, the initiative will significantly improve living conditions and overall health in the two communities.<\/p>\n

Eze (Hon.) Okechukwu Abbey, Eze Nchemini of Rebisi and Secretary of the Port Harcourt City Council of Traditional Rulers, praised LG\u2019s contribution to community welfare.<\/p>\n

“LG\u2019s support is a testament to their commitment to our community\u2019s progress, both economically and socially,” he said during the commissioning ceremony.<\/p>\n

The solar-powered borehole project also encourages local ownership, with community members being trained to manage the system, ensuring its sustainability for years to come.<\/p>\n

Mahmoud Youssef, Branch Manager of Fouani Nigeria Ltd, distributors of LG products, highlighted the long-term benefits of the initiative: “This system will remain cost-effective and efficient, providing a steady water supply for Nkpogu and Elekahia.”<\/p>\n

This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which aims to ensure access to clean water and sanitation for all.<\/p>\n

It also supports public health goals by offering immediate relief from water-related issues while contributing to long-term improvements in the communities\u2019 health and welfare.<\/p>\n

Residents have expressed their gratitude for the new water supply, noting its transformative impact on their daily lives.<\/p>\n
