{"id":56582,"date":"2024-11-20T19:17:24","date_gmt":"2024-11-20T19:17:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=56582"},"modified":"2024-11-20T19:17:24","modified_gmt":"2024-11-20T19:17:24","slug":"nurtw-mc-oluomo-set-to-resume-office-against-court-order","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/11\/20\/nurtw-mc-oluomo-set-to-resume-office-against-court-order\/","title":{"rendered":"NURTW: MC Oluomo Set to Resume Office Against Court Order"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MC Oluomo has announced his intention to resume leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), despite a recent legal setback.<\/p>\n<p>This marks his first public comment since the appellate court&#8217;s ruling that reaffirmed Ibikunle Baruwa as the NURTW president.<\/p>\n<p>MC Oluomo, who was elected unopposed at the union&#8217;s zonal secretariat in Osogbo, saw his presidency nullified by a three-judge appellate panel.<\/p>\n<p>The panel, consisting of Justices Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Okwy Dimgba, and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi, upheld the National Industrial Court&#8217;s March 11 ruling that recognized Baruwa as the legitimate president.<\/p>\n<p>The court also imposed a fine of N100,000 against MC Oluomo in favor of the respondents.<\/p>\n<p>Following the ruling, human rights lawyer Femi Falana called on the federal government to immediately reinstate Baruwa and urged the Attorney-General and the Inspector-General of Police to enforce the court\u2019s decision and recognize Baruwa&#8217;s leadership.<\/p>\n<p>However, there has been no official statement from the federal government regarding the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the court&#8217;s decision, MC Oluomo took to Instagram to announce his return, stating he was &#8220;refocused, recharged, and ready to rock!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He vowed to face challenges with determination, emphasizing that he was &#8220;unstoppable&#8221; and committed to making each day count.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, during his acceptance speech as President-elect, MC Oluomo had pledged to promote peace and unity within the union.<\/p>\n<p>His son, Idowu Akinsanya (also known as King West), celebrated his father\u2019s presumed victory on Instagram, posting a photo of MC Oluomo with President Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n<p>King West&#8217;s caption, &#8220;Nah, the country we dey control now, no be only Lagos again,&#8221; sparked mixed reactions, with some critics pointing to the unresolved leadership dispute.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Ibikunle Baruwa, who has been confirmed by both the National Industrial Court and the Court of Appeal as the legitimate president, has not resumed office.<\/p>\n<p>His social media accounts have remained silent regarding the court\u2019s decision or his next steps.
