Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has pledged to implement stringent integrity tests on all buildings in the state to avert future disasters.<\/p>\n
The governor made this commitment as he officially received the report from the committee investigating the tragic collapse of a school building in Jos, which resulted in the deaths of 22 students and left 154 people trapped.<\/p>\n
The two-storey building, owned by Saint Academy, collapsed in the Busa Buji community of Jos North Local Government Area.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the Twins Theatre, New Government House, Jos, where he was joined by Deputy Governor Josephine Piyo, Mutfwang commended the committee\u2019s chairman, Prof. Danladi Matawal, and other members for their thorough investigation.<\/p>\n
He described the report as essential for guiding future government actions.<\/p>\n
In addition to the original investigation, Governor Mutfwang expanded the committee\u2019s mandate, instructing them to assess the structural integrity of other key buildings, including the Jos Main Market and the Rockland Hotel in Laminga, to prevent future incidents.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we set up this committee, it was after the devastating loss of 22 young lives. We needed answers on the causes of building collapses and how to prevent such tragedies.<\/p>\n
\u201cYour work is not done yet. I expect you to also assess the Rockland Hotel and conduct integrity tests to determine the next steps,\u201d Mutfwang said.<\/p>\n
The governor also issued a stern warning to individuals illegally occupying government properties, ordering them to vacate immediately or face serious consequences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
