Four Nigerian students in the United Kingdom have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in a violent street brawl in Leicester.<\/p>\n
The altercation, which occurred on November 4, 2021, on New Park Street, left one victim with multiple stab wounds.<\/p>\n
Leicester City Police launched an extensive investigation using CCTV footage, phone tracking, and assistance from the public, leading to the identification and arrest of the suspects.<\/p>\n
After a six-week trial that concluded in October, sentencing was delivered on November 18, 2024.<\/p>\n
The convicted students; Destiny Ojo, Habib Lawal, Ridwanulahi Raheem, and Joshua Davies-Ero, are all in their early 20s.<\/p>\n
Ojo received the longest sentence of seven years for violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH), and GBH with intent.<\/p>\n
Lawal was sentenced to five years for similar offenses, while Raheem received three years for violent disorder and possession of a bladed article.<\/p>\n
Davies-Ero was sentenced to two years for violent disorder.<\/p>\n
A fifth defendant, 22-year-old Justin Asamoah, pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article and is scheduled for sentencing on November 22, 2024.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the case, a Leicester Police spokesperson commended public cooperation during the investigation and stressed the importance of tackling violent crime to uphold community safety.<\/p>\n
Detective Constable Sean Downey highlighted the severity of the case, stating, \u201cThis case underscores the dangers of violent disorder. We are fortunate that the injuries were not more severe or fatal.<\/p>\n
