The Nigerian Army has launched an investigation into a viral video showing Major General G.S. Mohammed and his aide, Corporal A. Abubakar, physically assaulting a couple in Abuja.<\/p>\n
The incident, which has sparked national outrage, reportedly occurred after Mr. Vershima Mker overtook the senior officer\u2019s vehicle.<\/p>\n
In the widely circulated footage, Major General Mohammed and Corporal Abubakar are seen attacking Mr. Mker and his partner, Ms. Lami Jennifer Iorvihi, before allegedly handcuffing them and taking them to the Gwarimpa Police Station.<\/p>\n
Reacting to the incident, the Army’s spokesperson, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, confirmed that the Chief of Army Staff had ordered an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the altercation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Chief of Army Staff has directed an investigation into the matter. While we are yet to ascertain the full details of the incident, the veracity of the video will be thoroughly examined to determine what transpired,\u201d Nwachukwu stated.<\/p>\n
The video has ignited widespread criticism, with many Nigerians demanding accountability and justice for the victims.<\/p>\n
Advocacy groups and social media users have condemned the actions of the officer, urging the military to uphold its commitment to discipline and professionalism.<\/p>\n
