The Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority has granted Portland Gas Limited a free zone enterprise licence to establish a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), conversion and refilling centre in the Onne Free Trade Zone, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued on Monday, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Portland Gas Limited, Folajimi Mohammed, described the initiative as a strategic effort to deepen CNG adoption across Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Mohammed noted that the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu\u2019s push for widespread CNG compliance as part of his administration’s clean energy agenda.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis project is not just about setting up a facility; it\u2019s about securing a cleaner and healthier future for Nigeria.<\/p>\n
“We are proud to contribute to this national priority and look forward to the official inauguration,\u201d Mohammed said.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that the move represents a critical step toward reducing Nigeria\u2019s dependence on petrol and diesel, while promoting cleaner energy alternatives.<\/p>\n
Mohammed also highlighted the strategic importance of the Onne Free Trade Zone as a hub for industrial activities, stating that the location provides an ideal environment for the project.<\/p>\n
The facility, he added, is expected to create numerous jobs, attract investments, and expand the company’s existing infrastructure and services in Abuja and Lagos.<\/p>\n
Also commenting, Bamanga Jada, the Managing Director and CEO of the Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority, commended the initiative as a significant milestone in Nigeria\u2019s energy transition.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe shift of our Oil and Gas Zone into a CNG-compliant region not only aligns with global energy trends but also propels us toward a sustainable and economically vibrant future,\u201d Jada said.<\/p>\n
