A police officer was killed, and two others narrowly escaped during a violent ambush by unknown gunmen in Abia State on Sunday night, November 17, 2024.<\/p>\n
The attack occurred at about 8:30 p.m. near the Umuahia South Local Government Area Secretariat in Ubakala. Inspectors Dunna Jatau and Bala Mohammed of the Abia State Police Command were ambushed while returning to base after escorting Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, a federal lawmaker representing Nsiala-Ngwa North\/South constituency.<\/p>\n
According to ASP Maureen Chinaka, spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command, the officers were intercepted by armed men in a tinted Toyota Corolla.<\/p>\n
Dressed in black, the assailants blocked the road and opened fire on the police Toyota Hilux vehicle. Inspector Bala Mohammed sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene, while Inspector Jatau and the driver managed to flee unscathed.<\/p>\n
The police have launched an intensive search operation and deployed tactical teams to track the attackers.<\/p>\n
