Former Presidential Spokesperson, Laolu Akande has urged Nigerians to focus on the nation’s pressing challenges instead of fixating on recent comments by Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the UK\u2019s Conservative Party.<\/p>\n
Speaking on ‘Inside Sources’ with Laolu Akande on Sunday, he described the backlash against Badenoch as a distraction from urgent domestic issues.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur obsession with Mrs. Badenoch\u2019s comments is entirely diversionary,\u201d Akande said. \u201cThe real concern should be the state of our country. We need to pressure our leaders to address fundamental problems like fixing the national power grid.\u201d<\/p>\n
Badenoch, a British politician of Nigerian descent, had stated she did not want the UK to reflect the situation in Nigeria, sparking outrage among some Nigerians.<\/p>\n
Akande, however, dismissed the uproar, emphasizing the need for collective action to tackle issues affecting the country.<\/p>\n
In the same segment, Akande commended the Supreme Court for dismissing a lawsuit filed by 19 state governments seeking to challenge the constitutionality of Nigeria\u2019s anti-corruption agencies.<\/p>\n
He lauded the ruling as a victory for accountability, allowing agencies like the EFCC and ICPC to continue their fight against corruption without interference.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis decision reinforces the importance of these agencies in combating corruption. It\u2019s a reminder that redemption for our nation is possible if we remain focused and resolute,\u201d Akande concluded.<\/p>\n
