The Court of Appeal in Abuja has nullified the election of Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).<\/p>\n
The ruling reaffirmed Tajudeen Baruwa as the union\u2019s legitimate president.<\/p>\n
The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by Justices Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Okwy Dimgba, and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi on November 8, upheld a previous ruling by the National Industrial Court on March 11, 2024.<\/p>\n
The lower court had declared Baruwa\u2019s re-election valid and voided the October 25, 2023, conference that produced an acting president and National Administrative Council.<\/p>\n
The judges dismissed the appeal filed by MC Oluomo\u2019s camp, describing it as lacking merit, and imposed a penalty of N100,000 against the appellants.<\/p>\n
The National Industrial Court had earlier ruled that the delegate conference held in Osogbo, Osun State, which elected MC Oluomo, was illegal.<\/p>\n
Justice O. O. Oyewumi, in her March 2024 judgment, stated there was no evidence of a crisis warranting the invocation of a “doctrine of necessity” to establish a caretaker committee.<\/p>\n
