The remains of the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, were laid to rest yesterday at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja, in a solemn ceremony attended by President Bola Tinubu, top government officials, and military leaders.<\/p>\n
President Tinubu, joined by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abass, and other dignitaries, led the nation in paying last respects to the distinguished officer.<\/p>\n
The event also witnessed the participation of service chiefs, members of the diplomatic corps, and Lagbaja\u2019s widow, Mariya, who received a posthumous Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) honour on his behalf.<\/p>\n
In his tribute, President Tinubu praised Lagbaja as a \u201csoldier\u2019s soldier\u201d and \u201ca rare gem,\u201d whose life epitomized patriotism, professionalism, and selflessness. \u201cHe was a trusted advisor, a man of prudent action, and a soldier whose legacy of service will be cherished forever,\u201d Tinubu said.<\/p>\n
The President recounted Lagbaja\u2019s transformative leadership in the fight against terrorism and banditry, his unwavering commitment to soldiers\u2019 welfare, and his passion for clearing longstanding benefits for families of fallen troops.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we mourn, we celebrate his courage, sacrifice, and leadership,\u201d Tinubu remarked, urging the Armed Forces to honor Lagbaja\u2019s memory by upholding patriotism and dedication.<\/p>\n
