{"id":56162,"date":"2024-11-15T16:30:02","date_gmt":"2024-11-15T16:30:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=56162"},"modified":"2024-11-15T16:56:42","modified_gmt":"2024-11-15T16:56:42","slug":"akeredolus-widow-under-fire-for-calling-nigeria-zoo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/11\/15\/akeredolus-widow-under-fire-for-calling-nigeria-zoo\/","title":{"rendered":"Akeredolu\u2019s Widow Under Fire for Calling Nigeria \u2018Zoo&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former First Lady of Ondo State, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu has been criticised for calling Nigeria \u201ca zoo\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>She made the remark on X on Wednesday, November 13.<\/p>\n<p>Anyanwu-Akeredolu, on her page, compared the US presidential election to Nigeria\u2019s, noting how quickly votes were counted in the recently concluded election.<\/p>\n<p>She wrote:<\/p>\n<p>\u201c2023 Nigerian Presidential Election,<\/p>\n<p>Total Votes Cast: 25 million, Counting Duration: 5 days<\/p>\n<p>2024 U.S Presidential Election, Total Votes Cast: 155 million, Counting Duration: Approx. 10 hours<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMoral: When dishonesty is prioritised, simple things become difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following a barrage of critical comments on her post, she made a follow-up post, saying: \u201cI made an honest but harmless observation on Nigerian and US presidential elections. Twitter is now on fire. Truth hurts and hurts with tribal colouration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added, \u201cIf the 2023 election presidential benefitted you as an individual or group, was that the best Nigeria could offer? Alas, they turned it into a tribal war of words. Nigeria is irredeemable! So sad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Responding to a comment on her initial post, she remarked, \u201cVery bitter indeed! Who will rescue Nigeria? What a zoo country!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the former Ondo First Lady\u2019s comment drew even more criticism, with one Tunde Akerele stating<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBetty, you are a disgrace to yourself and to humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One Femi Omogunwa said, \u201cYour interest, intents were not opaque to our discerning minds back then. We were just waiting for a moment of truth like this when you will understand that power is transient. Mama, enjoy your retirement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A political operative, Alli Moshood said, \u201cIt wasn\u2019t a zoo when you were actively First Lady? It wasn\u2019t a zoo when you contested severally to represent your people? It is simple, you are just pained to no longer have access to the perks of power. Such a shame.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One @igeseun17 wrote, \u201cBut you never tweeted this 4 years ago when you guys were still in power.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s well, but you\u2019re still in the same Nigeria that\u2019s irredeemable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another commentator, Noah Sherif said, \u201cThis woman is suffering from the trauma of power.
