Speaking to reporters in Lagos, Stella Okengwu, Managing Director of WinHomes Global Services, criticized the new alignment, arguing it violated existing laws and undermined investor confidence.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe conducted due diligence, obtained necessary approvals, and complied with all requirements, including clearance from the Lagos State Government, before building. Yet, the Ministry of Works has chosen a new alignment that disregards the 2006 gazette,\u201d Okengwu stated. She added, \u201cThis decision undermines the Lagos State Properties Protection Law, 2016, and jeopardizes efforts to attract diaspora investments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Okengwu called on President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Works David Umahi to revert to the original route, stressing that the estate was a $250 million diaspora investment initiative aimed at creating 5,000 jobs for Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Canada-based investor Dr. Charles Mba shared his disappointment, highlighting the sacrifices made by diaspora investors to contribute to Nigeria&#8217;s economy. \u201cWe saved for decades to invest in Nigeria, trusting the government to protect our investments. This realignment is a betrayal of that trust,\u201d Mba said, adding that the sudden change favors encroachers over lawful stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Another investor criticized the move, stating, \u201cRoads are for people, not animals. This decision displaces families and destroys lives.
