Nigeria\u2019s Interior Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced the launch of the NIS Contactless Biometrics App, a new initiative aimed at simplifying passport renewals for Nigerians abroad through remote facial and fingerprint capture.<\/p>\n
Following its successful rollout in Canada on November 1, the service will expand to the U.S., UK, and Italy on November 15, with global availability set for December 1.<\/p>\n
Tunji-Ojo recently met with UK officials, including Home Secretary Rt Hon Yvette Cooper, to discuss data security and collaboration for the app\u2019s launch.<\/p>\n
The contactless solution, developed by Nigerian firms Iris Smart Technologies and Newworks, seeks to address longstanding challenges in passport renewals, reducing wait times and providing greater access for Nigerians living overseas.<\/p>\n
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Tunji-Ojo emphasized the government\u2019s commitment to improving security, efficiency, and service delivery for Nigerians abroad.<\/p>\n
He also highlighted his recent oversight visit to the Nigeria High Commission in the UK, reaffirming the government\u2019s support for the attach\u00e9s working on the project.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe discussed mutual goals to strengthen security, efficiency, and service delivery, underscoring our administration\u2019s commitment to sustainable development through cooperation and shared purpose,\u201d Tunji-Ojo stated.<\/p>\n
