The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that a sudden frequency spike disrupted the national power grid on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n
TCN responded immediately, restoring power to the Abuja Axis within minutes and continuing efforts to stabilize the entire grid.<\/p>\n
According to a statement from TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the disturbance occurred around 11:29 AM, when the grid frequency rose unexpectedly from 50.33Hz to 51.44Hz.<\/p>\n
Mbah explained that the cause of the surge was traced to one of TCN’s substations, which was shut down to prevent further complications.<\/p>\n
In addition to addressing the immediate disruption, TCN is also conducting substantial repairs on critical infrastructure, including the 330kV transmission line along the Shiroro\u2013Mando axis and major upgrades at the Jebba Transmission Substation. Restoration work on the second Ugwuaji\u2013Apir 330kV line is also underway, Mbah noted.<\/p>\n
Mbah highlighted that the repairs are part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s transmission network, following recommendations from an investigative report into previous grid collapses.<\/p>\n
\u201cEfforts are being made to close the gaps highlighted in the report,\u201d she said, adding that TCN is implementing technical upgrades and strategic interventions to enhance grid stability.<\/p>\n
However, TCN acknowledged that some instability may persist as these extensive repairs progress. \u201cTCN acknowledges the impact of these disruptions and kindly asks for the understanding and patience of the public during this challenging period,\u201d Mbah stated, emphasizing TCN\u2019s commitment to improving the reliability of power supply as critical to Nigeria\u2019s socio-economic growth.<\/p>\n
