{"id":55125,"date":"2024-11-07T16:54:34","date_gmt":"2024-11-07T16:54:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=55125"},"modified":"2024-11-07T16:54:34","modified_gmt":"2024-11-07T16:54:34","slug":"coalition-criticizes-atiku-for-policy-suggestions-to-tinubu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/11\/07\/coalition-criticizes-atiku-for-policy-suggestions-to-tinubu\/","title":{"rendered":"Coalition Criticizes Atiku for Policy Suggestions to Tinubu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Proactive Coalition of Nigerians (PROCON) has condemned Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar for his recent policy advice to President Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n<p>The coalition described Atiku\u2019s statement as interference in Nigeria&#8217;s democratic process and called it a last attempt to revive his unsuccessful presidential ambition.<\/p>\n<p>Atiku, who ran as the Peoples Democratic Party\u2019s (PDP) candidate in the 2023 election, recently shared a statement titled &#8220;What We Would Have Done Differently.&#8221; In it, he criticized the current government\u2019s handling of fuel subsidy removal and fiscal policies, suggesting alternative policies he would have implemented.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope Tinubu and his administration are humble enough to borrow one or two things from our ideas in the interest of the Nigerian people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In response, PROCON released a statement through its national president, David Onuh, condemning Atiku\u2019s suggestions as &#8220;outdated ideas.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The coalition argued that Nigerians rejected Atiku\u2019s vision for governance in 2023, preferring Tinubu\u2019s approach. PROCON criticized Atiku\u2019s support for subsidy removal without addressing underlying structural issues, accusing him of putting profits over people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe choice of Asiwaju over Atiku was a collective decision by Nigerians, reflecting a consensus that Atiku\u2019s leadership style was not compatible with Nigeria\u2019s progress,\u201d Onuh said.<\/p>\n<p>The coalition also raised concerns about Atiku\u2019s history of privatization policies, arguing that they risk concentrating national resources in the hands of a few.<\/p>\n<p>PROCON noted that Nigerians preferred Tinubu\u2019s focus on economic diversity and regional unity over what it views as Atiku\u2019s \u201cprofit-driven agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The coalition argued that Tinubu\u2019s leadership, grounded in social inclusivity and long-term benefits, better aligns with Nigeria\u2019s needs.<\/p>\n<p>Onuh concluded, \u201cAtiku\u2019s proposals are outdated and do not resonate with the public, who desire leaders focused on the country\u2019s growth rather than self-serving agendas.
