Obama’s statements contrast sharply with Trump’s unusual refusal four years ago to acknowledge defeat to Joe Biden, which culminated in a violent attack by his followers on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.<\/p>\n
In a statement on Wednesday, Obama said, \u201cThis is obviously not the outcome we had hoped for. But living in a democracy is about recognizing that our point of view won\u2019t always win out and being willing to accept the peaceful transfer of power.<\/p>\n
The former president also expressed pride in the work of Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz, who were brutally defeated in the election.<\/p>\n
