Following a recent altercation with a Bolt driver, Nigerian lawmaker Hon. Alex Ikwechegh has announced plans to sponsor a groundbreaking bill to regulate the e-hailing industry nationwide.<\/p>\n
The Amalgamated Union of App-based Transport Workers of Nigeria (AUATON), representing e-hailing drivers, disclosed that Hon. Ikwechegh\u2019s legislative move came after a meeting with union officials.<\/p>\n
The proposed National E-Hailing Regulatory Bill aims to protect drivers, passengers, and e-hailing platforms by focusing on driver rights, passenger safety, and platform accountability.<\/p>\n
The bill\u2019s highlights include ensuring fair driver wages, establishing safety protocols for passengers, and setting operational standards for companies to protect workers and riders alike.<\/p>\n
Hon. Ikwechegh, who represents Aba North and South, reportedly apologized to the driver involved in the incident and committed to championing the rights of e-hailing workers.<\/p>\n
On his part, the AUATON Chairman Adedamola Adeniran praised the initiative as a significant leap forward in securing a fair, safe, and regulated e-hailing environment in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
