{"id":55035,"date":"2024-11-07T09:46:28","date_gmt":"2024-11-07T09:46:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=55035"},"modified":"2024-11-07T09:46:28","modified_gmt":"2024-11-07T09:46:28","slug":"fg-allocates-n45bn-to-boost-primary-healthcare-centres-across-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/11\/07\/fg-allocates-n45bn-to-boost-primary-healthcare-centres-across-nigeria\/","title":{"rendered":"FG Allocates N45bn to Boost Primary Healthcare Centres Across Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Adenike Lawal<\/p>\n<p>The Nigerian government has earmarked N45 billion to enhance the country\u2019s Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs), marking a significant step in its effort to improve healthcare delivery.<\/p>\n<p>The funding, part of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, was announced by Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Pate, at the Nigeria Health Sector-Wide Joint Annual Review in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Pate revealed that this initiative will support over 8,000 PHCs across the country, ensuring a fair distribution of resources aimed at revitalizing healthcare at the grassroots level.<\/p>\n<p>He highlighted that the first phase of funding has already been distributed, with an additional N3 billion raised over the past three years to further strengthen the sector.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to funding, Pate noted significant strides in healthcare infrastructure, with 2,600 healthcare facilities currently being upgraded and another 2,000 set for renovation.<\/p>\n<p>The minister also announced plans to retrain 120,000 frontline health workers, with over 40,000 already completing their training.<\/p>\n<p>The government has also seen success in tackling infectious diseases, with a notable reduction in diarrheal diseases, tuberculosis, and HIV cases.<\/p>\n<p>Family planning access has also improved in 17 states, strengthening health outcomes across Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Pate shared that the government\u2019s push for local health manufacturing is gaining momentum, with over 40 companies committing to invest in the sector.
