Customers using prepaid meters from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), are increasingly frustrated by their inability to purchase electricity tokens to recharge their meters.<\/p>\n
The problem, which has persisted since October 29, stems from an AEDC system upgrade that was supposed to resolve the issue within the week.<\/p>\n
Despite AEDC\u2019s apology and provision of an alternative link for token purchase, many customers report that the problem remains. Some customers who attempted to purchase tokens through the new link experienced delays, while those using older methods had funds deducted without receiving tokens.<\/p>\n
Abdullahi Ibrahim, a customer from Lugbe, reported being unable to recharge through the AEDC mobile app and was forced to go without power for three days.<\/p>\n
Another customer, Abbah Adeh, noted that while AEDC confirmed his payment, the token took over three hours to arrive, leaving him without immediate access to electricity.<\/p>\n
Kunle Olubiyo, President of the Nigeria Consumer Protection Network, warned that the ongoing issues could lead some frustrated customers to bypass their meters, resulting in higher electricity theft.<\/p>\n
