In a letter signed by SERAP\u2019s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, and copied to Dr. Matthew Gillett, Chair-Rapporteur of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, the organization urged Tinubu to address the matter within 48 hours of receiving or publicly noting their appeal. SERAP emphasized that if these demands are unmet, it may consider legal measures to compel compliance in the public interest.<\/p>\n

SERAP condemned the detention of the minors and other protesters, stating they were exercising peaceful, constitutionally protected rights. “Bringing charges against children and detaining them solely for peacefully exercising their human rights is clearly not acting in the ‘best interests of the child,'” the organization argued.<\/p>\n
