The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched the APC Leadership Awards to recognize and celebrate exceptional contributions to good government and democracy in Nigeria. The awards, which are scheduled for November 25, 2023, will honor those who have demonstrated steadfast devotion to the ideals of good governance and have significantly contributed to the nation’s progress.<\/p>\n
Among the distinguished awardees are notable figures such as President Bola Tinubu, former President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, and former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo. The recognition will extend to APC Governors, members of the National Assembly, State Houses of Assembly, and past and present national chairmen of the APC since its establishment in 2013.<\/p>\n
Dr. Tom Ohikere, the brain behind the awards, defended the initiative during a press briefing at the APC national headquarters in Abuja. He explained that the awards serve as a symbolic acknowledgment of the dedication and outstanding performance of committed party members nationwide. The objective is to inspire and appreciate party loyalists and leaders who have set themselves apart in their service to the APC, fostering healthy competition within the party’s leadership and stakeholders.<\/p>\n
Criteria for the awards will include a peer review report from the Progressive Governors Forum spanning from 2015 to the present, enabling the selection of state governors with notable achievements and legacy projects. The APC Parliamentary Award will assess the contributions of legislators in both the National and State Houses of Assembly based on the number of constituency projects, motions, and bills sponsored.<\/p>\n
Ohikere emphasized that the program’s overarching goal is to deepen and fortify the delivery of democratic dividends at all levels under the APC-led administration. The awards ceremony is expected to underscore the significance of productivity in global communities, as it remains a fundamental determinant of growth, social progress, improved standards of living, economic growth, and human development.
