The crackdown, which began Monday, aims to enforce stricter measures against illegal activities and maintain the city\u2019s sanitation.<\/p>\n<p>A specialized task force, comprising the Police, Military, Department of State Service (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other paramilitary agencies, was deployed in teams to different sectors of the city to target miscreants. FCT Police Commissioner Olatunji Disu described the operation as a &#8220;national assignment&#8221; and emphasized the importance of professionalism and diligence in upholding the ministerial directive.<\/p>\n<p>The operation will continue for two weeks, after which strategies will be reviewed. &#8220;This operation will last for the first two weeks. We will assess our achievements and continue if necessary,&#8221; said Disu.<\/p>\n<p>Adamu Gwari, Director of the FCTA Security Services Department, indicated that the task force operates both day and night to achieve maximum impact. Dividing the city into four sectors\u2014the city center, airport road, Kubwa, and the Asokoro to Nyanya axis\u2014the teams aimed to cover high-density areas simultaneously. While no beggars were found in the city center due to heightened awareness, 15 beggars and 19 scavengers were apprehended in various other locations.<\/p>\n<p>Kaka Bello, Head of Enforcement at the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), stated that the operation would extend beyond beggars to address other forms of urban nuisances, including illegal roadside trading and unlicensed technical services.<\/p>\n<p>As for the detained individuals, Dr. Sani Rabe, Director of Social Welfare at the FCTA, shared that they would be taken to the government\u2019s rehabilitation center in Kuchikon, Bwari Area Council, for profiling.
