President Bola Tinubu has directed a reduction in the number of vehicles and security personnel assigned to federal officials as part of efforts to cut the cost of governance.<\/p>\n

The new measures, announced in a statement on Thursday, limit ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys, with no additional vehicles allowed for movement.<\/p>\n

\u201cMinisters, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies are restricted to three vehicles. No extra vehicles will be assigned,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The president\u2019s directive also limits the security details assigned to each official to five personnel: four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer. No additional security personnel will be approved beyond this number.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Tinubu tasked the National Security Adviser to engage military, paramilitary, and other security agencies to assess and implement reductions in their vehicle use and personnel deployment.<\/p>\n

This announcement follows earlier cost-saving actions. In January, the president reduced the number of officials on foreign trips from 50 to 20 and limited local trip entourages to 25 officials. Vice President Kashim Shettima\u2019s team was also cut to five officials for foreign trips and 15 for local travels.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cAll affected officials are expected to comply with these directives immediately, underscoring the urgency and importance of these changes,\u201d the statement emphasized.<\/p>\n

The statement was signed by Bayo Onanuga, the president\u2019s special adviser on information and strategy.<\/p>\n
