The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has confirmed the crash of a Sikorsky SK76 helicopter operated by East Wind Aviation.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred around 11:22 am on Thursday along the waterways near Bonny Finima in the Atlantic Ocean. The helicopter was en route from Port Harcourt Military Base to the NUIMANTAN oil rig with eight people on board.<\/p>\n

Keyamo shared the news through his X account, expressing concern over the crash and detailing the ongoing rescue efforts.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cThe aircraft, with eight persons on board, ditched into the waters near Bonny Finima in the Atlantic Ocean. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has been notified, and emergency response teams were immediately activated,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He added that search and rescue operations are in progress with the support of the Nigerian Search and Rescue Unit, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, and the National Safety Investigation Bureau. Neighboring aerodromes have also been alerted for assistance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile no Emergency Locator Transmitter signal was received, manual efforts to determine the accident location are underway. All available resources, including the military and low-flying aircraft, have been deployed to assist in locating and rescuing any survivors. So far, three bodies have been recovered,\u201d Keyamo explained.<\/p>\n

The minister expressed his condolences to the victims\u2019 families, assuring them of the government\u2019s support. \u201cOur thoughts and prayers are with the families of those on board, and we are committed to providing the necessary support during this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n
