The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed reports of appointing an acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and reassured the public that Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the current COAS, is on annual leave and in good health.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued by Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, the DHQ clarified that there is no vacancy in the COAS position. He confirmed that the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, had spoken with Lagbaja, who assured him of his well-being and upcoming return to duty.<\/p>\n

“There is no provision for an acting Chief of Army Staff in the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” Gusau said, countering reports circulating in the media. He also emphasized that Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Ibrahim, the Chief of Policy and Plans, has been providing routine updates to the COAS following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).<\/p>\n

The DHQ further urged individuals spreading unfounded rumors about Lagbaja’s health to desist, reiterating that the COAS will resume his duties after completing his leave. Media organizations were also advised to verify information with appropriate authorities before disseminating news to avoid spreading misinformation.<\/p>\n

In response to a viral video advocating for military intervention in President Bola Tinubu\u2019s administration, Gusau reaffirmed the military\u2019s commitment to democracy. He emphasized that the Armed Forces remain loyal to the government and are focused on safeguarding Nigeria\u2019s sovereignty and stability.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe military is dedicated to its constitutional role of protecting the nation\u2019s integrity,\u201d Gusau said, warning that appropriate actions will be taken against any group promoting unconstitutional changes. He also credited the relative peace in the country to President Tinubu\u2019s support and the dedication of the Armed Forces’ leadership.<\/p>\n
