The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called upon the House of Representatives Committee on FCT to play a crucial role in supporting and expediting the passage of bills vital to the development of the territory.<\/p>\n
During the inaugural meeting of the 10th National Assembly\u2019s House Committee on FCT in Abuja, Wike emphasized the importance of ensuring the swift passage of several critical bills that are currently under consideration. The bills that require urgent attention include the Abuja Geographic Information System Bill, FCT College of Nursing and Midwifery Establishment Bill, FCTA Metropolitan Council Establishment Bill 2019, and the FCT College of Agriculture and other related Bill.<\/p>\n
Other significant bills include the Bill to provide for the FCT HIV\/AIDS Control Agency, FCT Orphanage (Registration & Regulatory) Agency Bill 2020, FCT Social Health Insurance Scheme Bill, and the FCT Educational Resource Centre (Establishment) Bill 2019.<\/p>\n
Wike noted that with the FCT now benefitting from the expertise of two experienced revenue generation leaders, himself and the House Committee chairman, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Betara, the territory is well-positioned to increase its revenue significantly.<\/p>\n
The minister highlighted the importance of collaboration with the legislative arm of government, stating, \u201cThe reform measures we are currently implementing are aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents of the FCT and addressing the challenges posed by our rapidly evolving society.\u201d<\/p>\n
Aliyu Betara, the chairman of the House Committee on FCT, expressed optimism about surpassing the revenue target for the FCT in 2023, thanks to the minister’s revenue drive. He assured a seamless working relationship with the FCT leadership for the advancement of the territory.<\/p>\n
Betara also expressed satisfaction with President Bola Tinubu\u2019s decisions, including removing FCT from the Single Treasury Account and creating the FCT Civil Service Commission.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, various members of the committee urged the FCT Minister to address issues like decongesting the City Centre and restoring the city\u2019s Master plan with a human face.
