Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information, said in a statement issued in Lokoja on Friday that the decision was made to guarantee that the state’s council election runs smoothly.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe decision is also to guarantee the security of voters and citizens across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlready, the state government has directed security agencies to enforce the order in the interest of the people and to ensure that offenders are punished,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The commissioner urged citizens to turn out in large numbers to vote for their local government representatives.<\/p>\n
He assured potential voters of adequate protection as they exercised their right to vote on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Fanwo added, \u201cWe also wish to express confidence in the capacity of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) to organise a free, fair, and credible council poll across the state.<\/p>\n
“We hereby urge citizens to be peaceful and to make their choices known through the ballot.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to him, it is important to urge voters to make democracy a free will and to value the power of the ballot over the bullet.<\/p>\n
