The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) is urging Nigerians to adopt global standards in producing goods, a crucial step towards expanding the economy and attracting growth. This call was made by SON’s Director General, Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke, at a sensitization workshop in Kano, where he emphasized the importance of sensitizing the public to the benefits of buying and producing standard goods.<\/p>\n
Folusho Bolaji, Director of Public Relations, represented Okeke at the event, explained that SON’s mandate aligns with President Tinubu’s goal of economic growth. By educating Nigerians on identifying and producing standard goods, SON aims to boost foreign exchange and exports, ultimately impacting the economy positively.<\/p>\n
Pius Lawal, Director in charge of Enforcement, clarified that SON’s role is not about arrests and prosecutions but ensuring compliance with rules and guidelines. Lawal emphasized the need for businesses to understand regulations, highlighting SON’s presence in commercial centers like Kano.<\/p>\n
To facilitate imports, Lawal mentioned the requirement of SONCap certification, conducted abroad through companies like CCIC, CCCSIC, Cortecna, and Veritas. These measures ensure goods meet standards, easing importation and marketing processes.<\/p>\n
The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) representative, Nura Safiyanu, appreciated the training, acknowledging exposure to vital regulations that will guide their operations.
