The exercise, led by Mukhtar Galadima, Director of the Department of Development Control, began on Thursday with the removal of 10 structures, with plans to intensify the demolition in the coming days.

Galadima emphasized that the demolished buildings had been erected by land grabbers who failed to obtain the necessary approvals from the relevant authorities. “We have warned that we would take action against land grabbers in the area,” he said, reiterating that illegal developments would not be tolerated in the capital city.

Sabon Lugbe falls within the southwest part of Abuja and is designated as part of the Phase 5 District of the Federal Capital City (FCC). Galadima warned prospective property buyers to verify the legality of their purchases to avoid falling victim to land scams. He noted that many residents had been misled into believing that these illegally acquired lands would be integrated into Phase 5 of the FCC, a claim he firmly debunked.

“There is nothing like integration. Illegality is illegality, and we will continue to remove every illegal structure in the FCT,” Galadima said, making it clear that the FCTA remains committed to enforcing regulations and protecting the integrity of the city’s urban planning.

The demolition operation will target about 50 illegal structures, with a particular focus on areas where land grabbers have been most active, including Idu Train Station, Gosa, Kyami, Apo Tarfi, and Lugbe. According to Galadima, the FCTA’s efforts are aimed at restoring order and preventing further unauthorized development in these regions.

He urged the public to be cautious when purchasing land or property in Abuja, emphasizing the importance of confirming the authenticity of any land deals with the appropriate authorities. The FCTA has continued to crack down on illegal structures, maintaining that such developments undermine the city’s master plan and pose significant risks to residents.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has commenced the demolition of 50 illegally constructed duplexes and bungalows in Sabon Lugbe, Abuja, as part of its ongoing efforts to combat unauthorized land developments.
