{"id":52421,"date":"2024-10-16T18:05:14","date_gmt":"2024-10-16T18:05:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=52421"},"modified":"2024-10-16T18:05:14","modified_gmt":"2024-10-16T18:05:14","slug":"165-cholera-cases-16-deaths-recorded-in-niger-commissioner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/10\/16\/165-cholera-cases-16-deaths-recorded-in-niger-commissioner\/","title":{"rendered":"165 cholera cases, 16 deaths recorded in Niger: Commissioner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>About 16 persons have died from cholera in Niger State, with 165 cases recorded and a nine cent mortality rate.<\/p>\n<p>The state\u2019s Commissioner for Primary Healthcare, Dangana Ibrahim, made the disclosure after a meeting of the State Task force Committee on Primary Healthcare and Immunisation, chaired by Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba in Minna.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Commissioner, 145 patients have been successfully treated and discharged.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo prevent further spread, contingency measures have been implemented, including the distribution of essential medical supplies to affected areas and health facilities,\u201d Mr Ibrahim said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the affected local government areas are Paiko, Gurara, Suleja, Bosso, and Katcha, noting that the state\u2019s disease surveillance system has been activated.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, active contact tracing and case management are ongoing in all affected communities.<\/p>\n<p>He said the state had intensified sensitisation and awareness campaigns focused on personal and environmental hygiene to curb further outbreaks.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Ibrahim also explained that the State Taskforce Committee on Primary Healthcare and Immunisation was designed to promote inter-sectoral collaboration for effective primary healthcare delivery.<\/p>\n<p>The committee includes members from various ministries, departments, agencies, and partners such as the WHO, UNICEF, and the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency.<\/p>\n<p>In its inaugural meeting, the committee reviewed challenges, identified weaknesses, and discussed areas for improvement, aligning with Governor Umaru Bago\u2019s vision of providing accessible healthcare services.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Ibrahim emphasised that the state government\u2019s New Niger Agenda prioritised healthcare, focusing on ensuring the health of residents, safe childbirth, and immunisation against diseases.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed confidence that with effective implementation, the state would be able to mitigate the spread of diseases and provide quality healthcare services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>About 16 persons have died from cholera in Niger State, with 165 cases recorded and a nine cent mortality rate.
