Ovation<\/em> magazine publisher and former presidential aspirant, Dele Momodu, has openly criticized the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his role in the escalating crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today<\/em>, Momodu expressed his frustrations, directly addressing former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, an ally of Wike.<\/p>\n

Momodu, who had vied for the PDP\u2019s presidential ticket in the 2023 election, reacted to comments Fayose made on the same program earlier. Fayose had described the ongoing PDP leadership struggle as “embarrassing.” The crisis has seen two factions within the party vying for control, a situation that many argue has weakened the PDP\u2019s opposition status.<\/p>\n

Responding to Fayose\u2019s remarks, Momodu said, \u201cIf they say it\u2019s embarrassing, they know what to do. I have never seen an opposition party voluntarily, openly, and shamelessly work for the ruling party. We are supposed to be an opposition.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went further to allege that the Wike-led faction, now working under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-controlled federal government, is deliberately undermining the PDP. Momodu accused Wike and his allies of playing a “game” in hopes that President Bola Tinubu will not seek re-election in 2027, allowing them to keep the PDP weak for their own political benefit.<\/p>\n

“Everybody knows, even members of APC, that these guys are playing games. They are holding the PDP down because they know the APC will never give them their platform. After destroying their own party, they can\u2019t expect to be given the APC\u2019s platform,” Momodu asserted.<\/p>\n

The PDP crisis worsened last week when the National Working Committee (NWC) suspended several top party officials, including the national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and the national legal adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade. In retaliation, Ologunagba, allegedly backed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, announced the suspension of the party\u2019s acting national chairman, Umar Damagun, and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu. This effectively split the NWC into two factions.<\/p>\n

Ologunagba\u2019s faction swiftly appointed Yayari Mohammed as the new acting national chairperson, while the other faction, loyal to Damagun, secured a Federal High Court order recognizing Damagun as the legitimate chair until the PDP\u2019s national convention in December 2025.<\/p>\n

Momodu urged Wike\u2019s loyalists and other factions to reconsider their stance and prioritize the survival of the party. \u201cThe elders of PDP must exercise both wisdom and courage. Right now, the people they are dealing with are reckless. They don\u2019t care if the PDP dies; if they can\u2019t have it, they\u2019re ready to destroy it,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that the actions of these factions could lead to the PDP\u2019s demise if left unchecked, calling for a peaceful resolution or an exit of dissatisfied members from the party.<\/p>\n

Turning to the state of Nigeria\u2019s economy, Momodu expressed deep concern over the leadership’s handling of the country\u2019s economic woes. He criticized the current political leaders for making empty promises, lamenting the lack of tangible improvements.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am yet to see the sign of that light at the end of the tunnel,\u201d he said, expressing his desire for a better Nigeria. \u201cI want Nigeria to be good, so it is not in my interest for Nigeria to collapse.\u201d<\/p>\n
