Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has expressed strong disapproval of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited\u2019s (NNPCL) role in setting the fuel price for Dangote Refinery. Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, Ajaero condemned NNPCL for increasing the pump price of petrol from N897 to N1,030 per litre in the Federal Capital Territory.<\/p>\n

Ajaero questioned NNPCL\u2019s authority over fuel pricing for private companies like Dangote Refinery, arguing that the company should not have the power to determine prices in a deregulated market. “As far as I\u2019m concerned, except something has happened to CAC, NNPCL is now a private company. Can that same NNPCL dictate the price for Dangote and other private companies?” he asked.<\/p>\n

He further criticized the delay in implementing alternatives such as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and the lack of progress at the Port Harcourt refinery, despite agreements between the federal government, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).<\/p>\n

Ajaero added that the justifications previously provided for deregulation have failed, noting that fuel prices continue to rise even with local production from Dangote Refinery. He called for answers regarding NNPCL\u2019s influence over fuel pricing in the current deregulated system.<\/p>\n
