Zazzaga, who also sat on the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council’s Stakeholder Relations Committee, made the announcement at a press briefing in Jos, Plateau State, on Tuesday.

Zazzaga’s letter to Ganduje outlines several key grievances that underpin his ultimatum. Notably, he emphasizes that Ganduje’s position as National Chairman is a violation of the APC Constitution and contradicts the party’s established zoning arrangements. According to Zazzaga, the national chairmanship was designated for the North-Central geopolitical zone at the party’s National Convention held on March 26, 2022, with a specific focus on Nasarawa State.

“Ganduje, hailing from the North-West region, is occupying a position meant for the North-Central, which is not only a breach of our party’s constitution but also undermines the agreed-upon zoning arrangements,” Zazzaga stated. He underscored that if Ganduje does not resign by next week Monday, he will be compelled to pursue legal action.

In his letter, Zazzaga recounted his dedication to the party since joining in 2016 and highlighted his role in the Tinubu/Shettima campaign, which ultimately led to the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He reiterated the importance of internal democracy within the APC and the necessity of adhering to constitutional mandates.

“The appointment of Ganduje as National Chairman was met with widespread discontent among party members, particularly those from the North Central region,” he remarked. “This appointment not only contradicts our party’s constitution but also jeopardizes our electoral prospects in upcoming elections.”

The timing of Zazzaga’s demand is particularly critical, given the ongoing political climate and the party’s struggles with internal cohesion. The leadership controversy comes at a time when the APC must consolidate its base to ensure electoral success, especially in the North Central region, which is crucial for the party’s overall strategy.

Zazzaga also pointed out that Ganduje is currently facing legal troubles, including allegations of corruption, which he argues further complicates his ability to effectively lead the party.

“In light of these circumstances, I believe it is in the best interest of the APC to have a leadership that is not only compliant with our constitution but also trusted by our members,” Zazzaga stated.

He offered an alternative to outright resignation, suggesting that Ganduje could temporarily step aside while a fact-finding committee investigates the legitimacy of his appointment, aligning with Article 21.3 of the APC Constitution.

“The APC must prioritize unity and democratic principles to rebuild trust among its members and enhance its electoral chances,” Zazzaga concluded.

Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, Chairman of the North-Central APC Forum, has publicly demanded the resignation of the All Progressive Congress (APC)’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, within seven days.
