Iran urged Israel on Tuesday not to attack any of its infrastructure, citing fears of an Israeli attack on oil or nuclear sites following Iran’s missile bombardment last week.<\/p>\n
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told state television that any attack on Iranian infrastructure would result in an even heavier response.<\/p>\n
He commented after Israel announced that it was preparing a reaction to Iran’s October 1 missile attack on its arch-enemy, the second in six months.<\/p>\n
According to an official statement issued on Monday, Araghchi stated that Iran has no desire to engage in regional conflict.<\/p>\n
On Friday, US President Joe Biden warned Israel against hitting oil installations in Iran, one of the world’s top ten petroleum producers.<\/p>\n
General Rassul Sanairad of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned Israel on Sunday that any strike on nuclear or energy sites would be a “red line”.<\/p>\n
According to the Fars news agency, in response to Israel’s threat, “some political leaders have spoken of a possible change in Iran’s nuclear policy.”<\/p>\n
In 2022, after an official stated that Iran possessed the technological capabilities to develop a nuclear bomb, the regime reiterated that its nuclear aspirations had not changed.<\/p>\n
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran paused its uranium enrichment last year before accelerating it in late 2023 to produce 60 percent enriched uranium.<\/p>\n
Enrichment levels of approximately 90% are required for military use.<\/p>\n
Iran has consistently denied any desire to acquire nuclear weapons capabilities, saying that its efforts are totally peaceful.<\/p>\n
Any attack on Iranian nuclear sites “would have an impact on the kind of response by Iran,” according to General Sanairad.<\/p>\n
Tehran claims that its attack on Israel, which involved the launch of over 200 missiles, was in response to the deaths of Hassan Nasrallah, leader of the Iran-backed Lebanese movement Hezbollah, and Hamas senior leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.<\/p>\n
Iran blamed Israel for Haniyeh’s killing, but Israel hasn’t responded.<\/p>\n
