Following the conclusion of the local government elections in Rivers State, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, on Monday called on President Bola Tinubu to caution the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, urging him to allow Governor Siminalayi Fubara to effectively govern the state.<\/p>\n

Bode George warned that Tinubu would ultimately bear the brunt if he failed to intervene in the growing political tension between Wike and Fubara.<\/p>\n

Governor Fubara conducted the local government election in Rivers State, which saw the Action People’s Party (APP) win in 22 local government areas, while Action Alliance won the last seat. Notably, the elections were conducted without the presence of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), amid ongoing disputes between Wike and Fubara over political control in the state.<\/p>\n

In a statement, George expressed concern for the state of democracy under Tinubu\u2019s leadership, emphasizing the need for Wike to step back and let the elected governor deliver on his mandate. “Now that the people of Rivers State have boldly asserted their civic and constitutional rights by coming out to vote, this is the time for former governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to allow Governor Siminalayi Fubara to work and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people,” George said.<\/p>\n

He also urged President Tinubu to advise Wike accordingly: “This is the time for President Bola Tinubu to counsel Wike, who is one of his ministers, to give room for the governor to govern. I say this with all sense of responsibility, because if democracy is truncated\u2014God forbid\u2014Tinubu, as the Commander-in-Chief, will be the biggest loser.”<\/p>\n
