His apology came during a sermon at the church’s ongoing Annual National Youth Convention, held at the RCCG Redemption City.

In his address, Adeboye admitted his error, stating, “I am going to be talking to everybody as soon as God permits me, and I am going to apologize for making a mistake by saying that if you don’t pay tithe, you will not make it to heaven. That’s wrong.”

Clarifying the biblical perspective, he added, “That is not in the Bible. What the Bible says is to make peace with all men and holiness, without which no man shall see God. It is possible to be right and wrong at the same time. I will prove it to you. For years, we taught that light travels in a straight line. Later we say it travels in waves.”

The pastor used this analogy to emphasize how even long-held beliefs can evolve as more understanding is gained. He reiterated that holiness and peaceful living, rather than tithing, are prerequisites for entering heaven, a message aimed at correcting misconceptions within the church community.

Pastor Adeboye also shared a personal story that shaped his views on giving during his experience at Kenneth E. Hagin’s ministry convention in Tulsa, United States. He recounted how a man at the convention promised to out-give all the participants in a fundraising effort for the Rhema Bible College. The combined contributions totaled $3.5 million, yet this man vowed to give more than everyone else.

“The man told me how he had started a business with just $500 and had made a deal with God: if God blessed him, he would not insult Him by giving only 10% in tithes,” Adeboye recounted. “Five years later, the man’s business was turning over $50 million annually. His testimony inspired me to give towards God’s work with the same passion and commitment.”

Adeboye used the story to illustrate a deeper spiritual principle: giving and praising God with intensity. He stressed that true blessings come not from half-hearted offerings but from a form of giving he described as “violent.”

“If you want to dominate, you must know how to praise God violently,” Adeboye stated. “David became king, not because he was the eldest or most qualified, but because he knew how to praise God with all his might. Unfortunately, many of us, as we grow in our faith, begin to praise God more gently, more politely. But David, even after becoming king, danced so vigorously that his own wife mocked him.”

He emphasized the need to praise God without restraint, as David did, and to give with the same level of intensity. “Your giving must be of the violent type,” Adeboye added. “King Solomon gave thousands of burnt offerings to God, and God promised him peace throughout his reign, without the need to fight a single war. Solomon’s violent generosity set him apart, and he enjoyed unprecedented favor.”

Pastor Adeboye concluded by urging the congregation, particularly the youth, to embrace this principle of intense praise and giving. He argued that success, both spiritually and materially, comes from honoring God without reservation, citing the examples of David and Solomon as proof that wholehearted dedication to God leads to divine favor and blessings.

“God is not impressed with gentle offerings or polite praise,” Adeboye said. “If you want to see extraordinary results in your life, you must praise and give with all your strength and passion, just as David danced violently before the Lord.”

With this message, Adeboye sought to correct his earlier teachings on tithing while inspiring his congregation to live a life of radical faith, filled with passionate worship and generous giving. His apology marks a significant moment for the church, as it reflects a more balanced interpretation of biblical teachings on giving and salvation.

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has retracted a previous statement linking tithing to salvation, acknowledging that his past teachings on the matter were incorrect.
