The crash involved a Nigerian Army Ford Pick-up, with registration number FST 134FX, heading towards Funtua, and a red Toyota Corolla, with registration number KTN 316 HK, enroute Zaria.

According to the FRSC’s report on the rescue operation, the Toyota Corolla, which was confirmed to be speeding beyond the legal limit, lost control and collided with the Ford Pick-up. Investigations revealed that the crash was caused by speed violation, a persistent problem on Nigerian roads.

Three individuals were involved in the crash, with two sustaining varying degrees of injury, while the third victim was rescued unharmed. The FRSC’s prompt arrival at the scene ensured that the injured were given immediate attention and the substantial sum of N8.62 million recovered at the scene was safely secured.

Commending the efforts of the rescue team, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed emphasized the importance of adhering to road safety regulations, particularly regarding speed limits. He reiterated that speeding is one of the leading causes of road traffic fatalities and injuries in Nigeria.

“Speed kills,” Mohammed stated. “It remains one of the most significant contributors to road accidents, and we continue to witness the devastating consequences of speed violations. I urge all road users to respect the prescribed speed limits and drive responsibly to safeguard their lives and the lives of others.”

The FRSC boss highlighted that road safety is a collective responsibility, and preventing accidents starts with obeying traffic rules, particularly speed regulations. He noted that the FRSC remains committed to its mandate of reducing road traffic accidents across Nigeria through education, enforcement, and swift rescue operations.

This particular incident serves as another reminder of the dangers posed by reckless driving and the value of the FRSC’s swift response in both rescuing accident victims and recovering valuables. The agency’s integrity in handling large sums of money found at accident scenes further reinforces public trust in their operations.

The FRSC will continue to enhance its presence on highways, particularly during peak traffic hours, to enforce speed limits and other road safety measures. This is part of their ongoing strategy to reduce the rate of crashes and ensure safer roads for Nigerians.

In the wake of the Kaduna accident, the FRSC is also calling on motorists to conduct regular vehicle maintenance and avoid distractions while driving. The Corps Marshal noted that adherence to basic safety protocols such as wearing seat belts, obeying speed limits, and refraining from phone use while driving can significantly reduce the risk of accidents.

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has praised the quick response and integrity of the Corps’ rescue team, who successfully recovered the sum of N8,620,000 during a rescue operation following a road traffic accident in Kaduna State.
