Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has warned that Nigeria is on the verge of a one-party dictatorship. Atiku made this assertion in his message marking Nigeria\u2019s 64th Independence Day celebration.<\/p>\n

In his statement, Atiku urged politicians of integrity to take action to reclaim Nigeria’s democracy. He expressed concern about the weakness of opposition parties and the ruling party’s manipulation of internal processes, suggesting it was rendering the opposition ineffectual.<\/p>\n

\u201cNigeria teeters on the brink of a one-party dictatorship, and it is incumbent upon all politicians and statesmen of integrity to rise and reclaim our democracy from the encroaching shadows of oppression,\u201d Atiku said.<\/p>\n

He added that despite numerous challenges, the resilience of patriotic citizens and support from international allies has helped Nigeria maintain its democratic structure. Reflecting on the 64th anniversary, Atiku highlighted the importance of Nigeria’s long-standing democratic governance.<\/p>\n
