An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain has advised President Bola Tinubu to be cautious in his dealings with Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the National Leader of the New Nigeria People\u2019s Party (NNPP), amid reports of a possible merger between the NNPP and APC. It is alleged that Kwankwaso seeks to merge his party with APC in exchange for a ministerial position and other roles for his supporters in Tinubu’s government.<\/p>\n

Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, a former commissioner in the Ganduje administration and an APC member, spoke to newsmen in Kano, emphasizing that any discussions with Kwankwaso should involve key APC leaders, particularly from Kano. He listed Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, House Majority Leader Alhassan Ado Doguwa, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation Abubakar Kabir Bichi, State Minister for Housing Tijjani Muhammad Gwarzo, State APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas, and other elected officials\u2014including National Chairman Dr. Umar Ganduje\u2014as essential participants.<\/p>\n

He expressed concerns over Kwankwaso’s intentions, suggesting that he could betray the talks even if it involves the President. “The presence of party leaders, especially from Kano, is necessary as witnesses,” he stated.<\/p>\n

Musa Illiyasu further explained that Kwankwaso appears to be leaving NNPP due to a decline in the party’s relevance, with many loyalists\u2014including elected officials\u2014defecting to APC. “Even in Kano, Kwankwaso\u2019s stronghold, the NNPP is gradually losing relevance,” he added.<\/p>\n
