A devastating boat incident on Monday has claimed the lives of four individuals in Nasarawa, marking the 16th such occurrence in the state in recent times.<\/p>\n
Among the victims, two were siblings, and the other two hailed from the Ubbe community in Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. This unfortunate incident transpired near the river, as the four victims were crossing it while on a mission to assist their brother in rice harvesting.<\/p>\n
This distressing incident follows a previous boat mishap at the Kogi Kungra Kamfani river in Arikiya, Lafia Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, where 12 lives were lost. In that prior tragedy, 19 individuals perished, with seven fortunate enough to be rescued.<\/p>\n
A witness to the Monday boat mishap recounted the harrowing events. Meanwhile, Comrade JD Congo, a youth leader and the brother of the deceased, confirmed the tragedy on Wednesday and made an urgent plea to the government. He urged authorities to take proactive measures to address the overflow of waters from the Lagdo dam in Cameroon and stressed the importance of safeguarding human lives above all else.<\/p>\n
Congo emphasized the need for the government to prioritize the well-being of its residents by providing modern boats, life jackets, and establishing a water task force to ensure the safety of the population.<\/p>\n
The victims of this heart-wrenching boat incident included Shedrack Dauda, a second-class upper graduate of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Akolo Moses, Meshach Dauda, and 39-year-old Alkali Congo (Alaye), a graduate of the College of Education (COE), Akwanga.
