Fresh details have emerged regarding the alleged VIP treatment received by Nigerian transgender celebrity Bobrisky, also known as Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, during her brief time in Kirikiri prison. Despite being sentenced to six months in April 2024 for naira abuse, a report from the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) reveals that Bobrisky spent only three weeks behind bars before being discreetly transferred to an unknown location.<\/p>\n

This revelation follows a phone conversation released by social media user Martins Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan), in which Bobrisky confessed to paying \u20a615 million to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to have “money laundering” charges dropped. She admitted to serving her sentence outside the prison system.<\/p>\n

A prison official, speaking anonymously to FIJ, confirmed that Bobrisky received VIP treatment while at Kirikiri. She was “guarded like a president” and kept in a special cell, with her stay reportedly arranged through monetary transactions. The official further shared an incident in which another inmate was punished for capturing Bobrisky on camera during a video call, leading to the inmate’s confinement for two months.<\/p>\n

Additionally, crossdresser James Brown claimed to have visited Bobrisky in June. However, sources revealed that by then, Bobrisky was no longer at Kirikiri. James had, in fact, visited another inmate, Vindicate, for a prison music collaboration.<\/p>\n

In response to the controversy, Nigerian Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has ordered an investigation into alleged corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS). Two deputy controllers of corrections, Michael Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, have already been suspended over their handling of Bobrisky\u2019s case.
