Tragic clashes between cult groups in Imo State’s Ohaji\/Egbema local government area have left eight people dead, according to a community leader. Five of the victims were cult members, while three community members died from shock after hearing gunfire. One person remains missing after being abducted.<\/p>\n
The community leader criticized the state government’s inaction and urged police intervention to ensure displaced residents can return safely. Many have taken refuge in neighboring communities, struggling without food or access to their homes and farmlands.<\/p>\n
A committee has been formed to address the crisis and restore peace. The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, confirmed that security agencies are working to restore peace, making arrests and engaging with local stakeholders.<\/p>\n
A youth leader attributed the violence to a supremacy battle between cult groups seeking control over oil company proceeds. The conflict has displaced residents, who are now seeking refuge in nearby churches.<\/p>\n
