During the conversation, Bobrisky reportedly claimed to have paid ₦15 million to have charges of money laundering dropped by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

FIJ sources confirmed that although Bobrisky was officially sent to Kirikiri in April, she only spent three weeks in the facility before being moved elsewhere. “Bob spent only three weeks here with us in Kirikiri before he was taken out to another place we don’t know,” a prison official told FIJ. “It was an arranged thing, and money was involved.”

The source added that Bobrisky was treated like a VIP, guarded heavily, and housed in a special cell before being discreetly moved. “She received VIP treatment all through,” the official stated, confirming that the substantial payment mentioned by Bobrisky was true.

This situation is reminiscent of a 2019 undercover investigation by FIJ founder, Fisayo Soyombo, who exposed systemic corruption in Nigerian prisons, revealing how inmates could pay for privileges, including furnished apartments, access to phones and drugs, and even arrangements to live outside the prison.

The prison source also shared a notable incident where another inmate was punished for recording Bobrisky during a video call. The inmate was locked in his cell for nearly two months as punishment for invading Bobrisky’s privacy.

The revelations raise further questions following a June 8 visit by fellow crossdresser James Brown, who claimed to have visited Bobrisky in Kirikiri. However, sources confirmed that by that time, Bobrisky was no longer in the facility. James had reportedly visited another inmate named Vindicate to collaborate on a song recorded from prison, with permission from prison authorities.

The Nigerian Correctional Service has yet to confirm or deny whether Bobrisky served her full sentence in Kirikiri. Meanwhile, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended two senior prison officers, Michael Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, for their handling of Bobrisky’s case, pending further investigation.

Nigerian transgender celebrity, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, spent just three weeks in Kirikiri Prison after being sentenced to six months for naira abuse in April, according to a report by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ). The controversy surrounding Bobrisky’s prison term reignited after a social media user, Martins Vincent Otse, […]

[172

post-50040","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news
["GET
