{"id":50017,"date":"2024-09-26T18:21:44","date_gmt":"2024-09-26T18:21:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=50017"},"modified":"2024-09-26T18:21:44","modified_gmt":"2024-09-26T18:21:44","slug":"ps-dmcma-announces-local-production-of-pharmaceutical-products","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/09\/26\/ps-dmcma-announces-local-production-of-pharmaceutical-products\/","title":{"rendered":"PS-DMCMA Announces Local Production of Pharmaceutical Products\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency (PS-DMCMA) has announced the commencement of local production of pharmaceutical products to address drug accessibility and affordability issues within the state.<\/p>\n<p>The Executive Secretary of the agency, Kim Bot, made this announcement during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Jos.<\/p>\n<p>Bot, a pharmacist, highlighted that the agency has already manufactured five pharmaceutical products, signaling the start of a significant stride toward self-reliance in healthcare.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><b>Manufactured products\u00a0<\/b><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The locally produced pharmaceuticals include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cough syrup<\/li>\n<li>Antacid (Mist. Magnesium Trisilicate) for oral use<\/li>\n<li>Methylated spirit<\/li>\n<li>An antiseptic for external use<\/li>\n<li>Sanitisers for surface cleaning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bot noted that these products have undergone efficacy testing, yielding exceptional results. \u201cThe efficacy of the products had been tested and superb results were gotten,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to manufacturing, Bot discussed the agency\u2019s pharmaceutical-grade warehouse, which exemplifies the Plateau State government\u2019s dedication to ensuring the quality, safety, and efficiency of the pharmaceutical supply chain. The warehouse features advanced temperature control systems, cutting-edge inventory management technology, and stringent security measures.<\/p>\n<p><em><i>\u201cThis warehouse serves as a vital link between pharmaceutical manufacturers and healthcare providers, ultimately benefiting countless patients who rely on these essential medicines,\u201d<\/i><\/em>\u00a0he explained.<\/p>\n<p>As the agency moves forward, it plans to scale up production once it secures registration and certification from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).<\/p>\n<p>Bot added that the majority of raw materials for these products were locally sourced, with only one ingredient being imported.<\/p>\n<p>According to Bot, this local manufacturing effort is expected to enhance the accessibility and affordability of essential medicines within the state. \u201cThe efforts would bring about accessibility and affordability,\u201d he reiterated.<\/p>\n<p>Bot also praised Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his unwavering commitment to improving healthcare in the state. He acknowledged the governor\u2019s role in ensuring that Plateau residents receive the best possible healthcare services.<strong><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nigeria\u2019s pharmaceutical sector is making strides toward increasing local drug production, with a target to reach\u00a070% manufacturing capacity. Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), revealed that local production has already surpassed 30%, nearing 40%. Adeyeye stated, \u201cOur goal is to increase local manufacturing to 70% while limiting\u00a0importation to 10%.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to this initiative, NAFDAC has approved\u00a0105 application for the establishment of drug manufacturing facilities across Nigeria, out of 143 submissions.
