A fresh wave of fuel scarcity has hit the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with motorists spending hours in long queues to purchase Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol. The scarcity has been exacerbated by the closure of several filling stations operated by independent marketers.<\/p>\n

As of Tuesday evening, findings revealed that many stations across Abuja remained closed, leading to congestion at the few that were open, particularly those operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and some major oil marketers. Stations such as the NNPC mega station along the Zuba-Kubwa Expressway, the AP station on Aguiyi Ironsi Street, and the NIPCO station on the same expressway were packed with long queues of vehicles waiting for fuel.<\/p>\n

The scarcity has left many residents stranded at bus stops, while black marketers have taken advantage of the situation, selling fuel at exorbitant prices to desperate buyers.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, this scarcity coincides with the production of PMS from the Dangote Refinery. According to sources, members of the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) have lifted over 50 million litres of PMS from the refinery in the past week.<\/p>\n

Speaking during a webinar on Tuesday, MEMAN Chairman Huub Stokman confirmed that major marketers have begun loading fuel from the Dangote Refinery. However, Stokman did not clarify whether the fuel was being purchased directly from the refinery or from stock acquired by the NNPCL.<\/p>\n

“I can tell you that we have started loading PMS from Dangote refinery. Our members have lifted millions of litres from Dangote,” Stokman said.<\/p>\n
