Chief Tony Okocha, APC’s caretaker committee chairman, clarified that the lawmakers, led by Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, never formally joined the party despite their public announcement.<\/p>\n
Okocha expressed his party’s interest in wooing the lawmakers due to their internal crisis within the PDP. He also highlighted APC’s victory in Edo State’s governorship election, aiming to replicate this success in Rivers and Delta States in 2027. The party’s goal is to have governors from the APC in all six South-South states.<\/p>\n
However, a conflicting narrative emerges from the faction led by Chief Emeka Beke, who insists the 27 lawmakers are APC members following their defection from the PDP. This internal dispute reflects the complexities within Rivers State’s APC leadership.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Okocha criticized the scheduled October 5 local government election, calling it an attempt to disregard court orders and laws. The APC is currently in court to stop the election, and Okocha doubts its feasibility given the ongoing legal proceedings.<\/p>\n
