The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied allegations that it is involved in the ongoing leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), following claims made by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed. The APC, through its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, dismissed these accusations in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, stressing that the PDP’s troubles are entirely of its own making.<\/p>\n
Governor Bala Mohammed had insinuated that the APC might be playing a role in the PDP’s prolonged leadership tussle. In response, Morka categorically denied any involvement, describing the crisis as “self-inflicted and endemic” and pointing to the PDP’s history of internal conflicts that existed long before the APC was even formed.<\/p>\n
Morka went on to highlight the series of chaotic tenures of past PDP national chairmen, including Barnabas Gemade, Audu Ogbeh, Vincent Ogbulafor, Okwesilieze Nwodo, Bamanga Tukur, Ali Modu Sheriff, Ahmed Makarfi, Uche Secondus, and Iyorchia Ayu. According to him, these examples demonstrate a pattern of leadership struggles within the PDP that has persisted over the years, further emphasizing that the APC has no hand in the party’s internal discord.<\/p>\n
“The PDP\u2019s current crisis is rooted in its failure to adhere to its own constitution, particularly on the issue of zoning and power-sharing between the North and South zones,” Morka said. He argued that the PDP leadership\u2019s decision to concentrate both the presidential candidacy and the national chairmanship in one geopolitical zone was a major contributing factor to its deepening crisis. This, he suggested, has left the party in a state of disarray, with factions emerging and widening the internal divide.<\/p>\n
Morka advised Governor Mohammed and other PDP leaders to engage in self-reflection and find solutions within their ranks, rather than attempting to lay blame on external actors like the APC. “The PDP should take responsibility for its own decisions instead of pointing fingers.
