According to Atiku, voting for the APC would mean endorsing the hardship, misery, and economic decline that Nigerians have faced under the party’s rule.

In a message titled “The Clear Choice for a Prosperous Edo State,” shared via his Facebook page on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, Atiku called on Edo voters to reflect on their living conditions since the APC took power. He questioned whether life had improved under APC’s leadership, accusing the party of plunging Nigeria deeper into poverty and suffering.

“Ask yourselves if your lives have been better under the administration of the APC,” Atiku said. “This is a party that has led Nigeria into an abyss of suffering. A vote for them is an endorsement of the continued misery and hardship that Nigerians have endured over the years.”

Atiku pointed to the skyrocketing cost of fuel, now over ₦900 per litre, as evidence of the APC’s failure to manage the nation’s economy effectively. He recalled how the party once criticized previous administrations for increasing fuel prices but now presides over a crisis that has left Nigerians struggling to afford basic necessities.

“The APC criticized past leaders for raising fuel prices, yet today, they preside over an era where fuel costs soar. Their cruelty and disregard for the plight of the masses are unmatched. A vote for the APC is a vote for the continuation of misery, hunger, and despair,” Atiku stated.

The former Vice President did not stop at condemning the APC. He passionately endorsed Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, as the right choice for the future of Edo State. Atiku emphasized that electing Ighodalo would not only consolidate the achievements of the outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki but also usher in a future of prosperity, dignity, and hope.

“Do not be swayed by the empty promises of the APC. Electing Dr. Asue Ighodalo of the PDP is not just a vote; it is an act of reclaiming our future. It is a choice to build on the good work of Governor Obaseki and to secure a future of prosperity for Edo State,” Atiku added.

Atiku further accused the ruling APC of manipulating voters with false promises, claiming that the party is more interested in retaining power than in addressing the real needs of the people. He described the APC as a party that wears the mask of a friend to the masses but, in reality, pursues selfish ambitions that have left millions of Nigerians in poverty.

“The APC has donned the mask of a friend to the masses, but behind this veil lies a sinister reality. They have lured gullible voters with sweet promises, only to reveal their true nature—a party driven by a hunger for power rather than the well-being of the people. They have forsaken the ideals of governance, ignoring the cries of the common man while pursuing their selfish ambitions,” Atiku said.

He lamented the dire state of the nation, where basic necessities such as food have become luxuries for many. Nigerians are not dying of disease but of hunger,” Atiku claimed.

He urged Edo voters to take their destiny into their own hands by rejecting the APC and choosing a path that would lead to economic recovery and social progress.

“The power to break free from the chains of bad governance, and the power to chart a new course for Edo, lies in your hands.
