Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to fostering a better working environment for Nigeria\u2019s airline operators. This assurance follows the recent signing of the Cape Town Convention (CTC) Practice Directions, which Shettima described as a significant milestone in enhancing ease of doing business within the country’s aviation sector.<\/p>\n

Shettima made the statement on Tuesday during a meeting with the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The discussion focused on addressing challenges related to foreign exchange and outstanding payments with the Central Bank of Nigeria, the National Hajj Commission, and airline operators.<\/p>\n

Air Peace CEO, Allen Onyema, highlighted the fragile nature of the airline industry, stressing the need for continuous government support to ensure its stability and growth. Onyema praised the federal government’s recent signing of the CTC Practice Directions, noting its potential to transform Nigeria into an economic powerhouse.<\/p>\n

“What you did on Thursday is going to open up this country to become an economic powerhouse,” Onyema remarked. He emphasized that this move would allow airlines to expand their networks both within Nigeria and across Africa, thereby enhancing the sector’s contributions to the economy.<\/p>\n

Onyema also called for further measures to assist airlines in navigating current challenges, particularly with regard to foreign exchange issues, suggesting a special window from the Central Bank to aid operators.<\/p>\n

Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Special Adviser to the President on PEBEC & Investment, echoed the meeting’s positive outcome, stating that ongoing dialogue between stakeholders would help resolve industry challenges and create a more conducive environment for investment and service delivery.<\/p>\n
