Olawande made this statement during the Joint Union Negotiating Council’s (JUNC) week at the Federal Ministry of Youth Development in Abuja. The event was themed, “The Working People in a Volatile, Uncertain, and Complex Economy.”

Speaking to a gathering of public servants, Olawande reassured Nigerians that President Tinubu’s administration is focused on transforming the country and urged the public to remain patient. “I urge you to be patient with this administration. In no distant time, the country will take a good shape and the lives of its citizens will be transformed,” he said.

The minister emphasized that Tinubu, a former two-term governor of Lagos State, is a wealthy man with no need to exploit the nation’s treasury. “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not a pauper; he is an acknowledged epitome of wealth, and so it cannot be said of him that he desires to loot the treasury of Nigeria. He has seen money, and as a result of this, he is not interested in looting the nation’s resources,” Olawande remarked.

Olawande’s comments come at a time when the Tinubu administration has faced scrutiny over its economic policies and the rising cost of living. Despite these challenges, the minister encouraged Nigerians to trust in the president’s leadership and commitment to serving the nation.

“Leadership is all about being committed to serve. If you are a Minister now, tomorrow you will be addressed as a former Minister, likewise a Director, because there is no permanent position. But the impact you make while in office will speak for you after you leave,” he said, highlighting the importance of integrity and legacy in public service.

President Tinubu, who has a long political career dating back to his time as a Senator in Nigeria’s short-lived Third Republic, is also a prominent businessman. His business interests span various sectors, including tourism, real estate, and media. This, Olawande suggested, reinforces the idea that Tinubu is not motivated by personal financial gain in his current role as president.

In addition to his wealth, Tinubu’s political and economic influence has been a subject of much debate over the years. His tenure as governor of Lagos State is often credited with modernizing the city and turning it into an economic hub. His administration introduced reforms in key areas such as infrastructure development, public transportation, and revenue generation, leaving a lasting impact on Lagos.

Olawande pointed to Tinubu’s past achievements as proof of his dedication to national development. “Look at what he did in Lagos. He turned the state into a model for economic growth, and he has a similar vision for the entire country. We just need to give his administration the time and support to achieve that,” he said.

The minister’s remarks also touched on the broader challenges facing Nigeria’s economy, particularly in light of global uncertainties and internal volatility. The JUNC week, themed around the complexities of working in such an environment, provided an apt backdrop for Olawande to address concerns about the government’s ability to deliver on its promises.

He assured the audience that the administration is fully aware of the economic hardships faced by many Nigerians, and that efforts are underway to implement policies that will ease the burden on citizens. “This administration is not unaware of the struggles people are facing. There are plans in place to improve the economy, create jobs, and make life better for everyone,” he added.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is an “epitome of wealth” with no desire to loot the country’s resources, according to Ayodele Olawande, the Minister of State for Youth Development.
